Yearly Diagnostic Testing"Why Is This Recommended?"As part of your pet's annual physical exam and vaccinations, we strongly recommend yearly diagnostic testing. When we go to the doctor, part of our annual physical is bloodwork and a urinalysis. The same is recommended for our pets. Diagnostic testing is a blood panel and urinalysis, which allows us to evaluate the health of your pet's liver and kidneys, check for diseases like diabetes, provide a complete blood cell count, and detect infections. A urinalysis helps to accurately interpret the bloodwork, and helps give a more complete analysis of your pet's health. Regardless of your pet's age, physical examination, and medical history, we recommend diagnostic testing to identify health issues that may not be outwardly detectable. A healthy appearing pet may be hiding symptoms of disease. For example, a pet can lose 75% of kidney function before showing signs of illness. Early detection of these conditions allows your vet to begin appropriate treatment to prevent disease progression. These tests also provide normal baseline levels for future comparison. |
